FAQs
Yes, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is completely legal when prescribed and administered by licensed professionals. Ketamine has been approved by the FDA as an anesthetic since the 1970s, and in recent years, it has been safely and legally used to treat mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
In our practice, ketamine is prescribed by Dr. Bramwell, our licensed medical provider, and administered in a controlled, therapeutic setting. Every part of the process—from screening and dosage to integration therapy—is grounded in clinical best practices and ethical care.
Yes, absolutely. You will be supported by your therapist throughout the entire ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) session. You won’t be left alone. We create a calm, private space where you can feel safe and cared for. Your therapist will stay nearby the whole time—offering grounding, presence, and support as needed. You’re never navigating the experience on your own.
Not in the way many people think of when they hear that word. The experience is often more like a dream or a deep meditative state. You may see imagery, feel a shift in your sense of time or space, or access memories or emotions more vividly. It’s not about “tripping” or losing control—it’s about gently opening your awareness in a safe, therapeutic setting. Most people describe it as peaceful, introspective, or even emotionally clarifying.
Everyone’s experience is a little different, but many people describe it as calming, spacious, or like floating inward. You may feel emotionally open, detached from your usual thought patterns, or able to see yourself and your experiences from a new perspective. Some describe it as feeling connected to something deeper, or like taking a break from the noise of everyday life. Your therapist will help you stay grounded and supported throughout.
It really depends on your goals, your history, and how your mind and body respond to the medicine. Some people notice shifts after just a few sessions, while others benefit from a series of treatments over time. A typical course might include 2 to 4 ketamine sessions, with integration therapy between each one. During your intake and after your first few sessions, we’ll check in together and make a plan that feels right for you.
Medical screenings, preparation sessions, and integration sessions can all be done virtually for your convenience. However, to ensure your safety and maintain the integrity of the ketamine experience, dosing sessions—where you take the medicine—are conducted in person at one of our three office locations: Jersey City, Highland Park, or Freehold.
